F.A.Q

How long has Maker Mart been around?

Maker Mart has been here since Winter 2019. It was launched that December with a festive pop-up, and then continued on as a permanent shop. Over the past 4 years Maker Mart has grown and evolved, going from being staffed purely by volunteers to having permanent paid staff who curate and run the shop, and is open 7 days a week.

I am a maker and I am interested in having my work stocked at Maker Mart, how do I apply? Does the store take commission or do I need to pay for shelf space?

You can apply via our website under "apply to sell" and fill out the form provided. We operate on a sale or return basis, taking a commission from product sales which goes directly back into keeping the shop running, and supporting Exeter Phoenix. Aplications are reviewed regularly, but it may be a few months before we can get in touch with you. So please be patient.

How many local artists are currently at Maker Mart?

We currently have around 130 active makers who stock with us. All are based in the South West of England.

Where are Maker Mart's workshops run and how do I book a space?

Workshops are held at Maker Mart in the shop. Bookings can be made via Exeter Phoenix and can be purchased online or in person. All information about up coming workshops can be found here.

Are dogs allowed in Maker Mart?

Yes, absolutely! We are dog-friendly, and in the warmer months have water available for our four legged friends.

Is there disabled access at Maker Mart?

Unfortunately not due to the building design, which features a stairwell. The entrance is fully accessible however so we are happy to go down onto the shop floor to get anything on behalf of customers who require a bit of assistance. Please feel comfortable to ask us.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes we do! You can purchase vouchers of the values £5 and £10, which can be used on anything in the shop. Gift vouchers last for six months from the date of purchase. The full voucher amount needs to be redeemed in one transaction, however multiple vouchers can be used at different times.

Do you accept Exeter Independent Gift Cards?

Yes, and you can use them to purchase anything in Maker Mart.

I recently purchased some jewellery from Maker Mart and discovered it was faulty, how would I go about getting a replacement?

This is a rare occurrence, but in the event you do have an issue then please either bring the item into the shop, or send us a photograph with a message to describe the problem either via email or insta. We will then check with the individual maker on your behalf about a replacement. Alternatively you can contact the maker directly.
